By allowing people to self-test aren’t you encouraging them to avoid their Doctor?
Many men interested in establishing their hormone levels appear to have a disenfranchised relationship with their Doctor. Many have presented to their G.P.’s with classical symptoms of andropause and hypogonadism only to be dismissed without the most basic of hormonal investigations. This leaves the patient disenchanted and undermines the Doctor-patient relationship.
Many of these patients turn to very expensive private medics to obtain the investigations and peace of mind that they seek. Others fall prey to complementary therapies of unproven efficacy, or choose to self medicate without any monitoring whatsoever. We believe that direct access to testing can provide the information that these men seek. Our aim is not to exclude the physician. Rather, our aim is to rebuild and enrich the patient’s relationship with his physician by providing high quality analytical data that stimulates the patient-practitioner dialogue.
In the UK and Western Europe all treatment must be conducted under the guidance of a qualified medical practitioner. Access to medications such as testosterone, human chorionic gonadotrophin, anastrazole, finasteride etc. is available only via prescription. Even DHEA is a prescription-only item in England. Hence, even though we will provide access to testing, all therapeutic interventions must be instituted and monitored by the patient’s G.P. or Consultant.
