Frequently Asked Questions

Question

I am considering using pro-hormones to aid my bodybuilding progress. Should I test my hormone levels?

Answer

Yes we believe that this may be prudent. Pro-hormones may have the potential to produce milder manifestations of some of the side effects classically associated with anabolic steroid use. Examples would be testicular atrophy and disruption of the hypothalamic and pituitary components of the HPTA (e.g. by generating a relative oestrogen excess which exerts feedback inhibition of GnRH, LH, and therefore testosterone production). Such conditions can be considered a hybrid state of primary hypogonadism (due to the testicular atrophy) and secondary hypogonadism (due to the hypothalamic-pituitary inhibition).

Because such shifts in hormonal profiles can be precipitated by pro-hormones, we recommend testing your testosterone and oestrogen levels prior to any such intervention. This baseline check can then serve as a reference point to assess the impact of any interventions on your personal hormonal milieu. Furthermore, in addition to your pre-cycle check we recommend a post-cycle check 8-12 weeks after your cycle to assess recovery.
