< back to product list

Androbalance Lycopene is an encapsulation of 'Lyc-O-Mato', a natural tomato extract from LycoRed Natural Product Industries Limited. This rich extract provides a complex of lycopene and other phytonutrients in a natural tomato oil base. The blend of lycopene and related carotenoids, phytosterols, mixed natural tocopherols, and additional bioactive compounds, preserves the rich and synergistic blend of phytonutrients found naturally in tomatoes.

The product is presented in gelatine softgels, each providing 250mg of Lyc-O-Mato extract and delivering 15mg of lycopene for convenient once daily dosing. This same extract has recently been selected as the product of choice for the first randomised controlled trial of lycopene in slowing the progress of prostate cancer.

The synergistic blend of phytonutrients in Lyc-O-Mato have been demonstrated to provide greater benefit than pure lycopene alone (338,339,340). Lycopene is lipophilic and so should be consumed with fat for optimum absorption (341,342).

Lycopene's Research History:

• Numerous epidemiological studies demonstrating an inverse relationship between consumption of lycopene and/or tomato products and the risk of prostate cancer (343,344,345,346,347,348,349,350,351,352)
• 3 week intervention with Lyc-O-Mato in localised prostate cancer reduced markers of cancer growth assessed at prostatectomy (353)
• Short term intervention trials demonstrate lycopene accumulates in prostate tissue and reduces prostate specific antigen (PSA) levels (353,354,355)
• Case report evidence of benefits of lycopene in hormone refractory prostate disease (356,357)
• Animal model, cell culture, and biochemical evidence for lycopene's anticarcinogenic activity (358,359,360,361,362,363,364,365,366,367,368,369)
• Numerous studies detailing lycopene's extremely potent antioxidant activity (361,370,371,372,373,374,375)
• Evidence for lycopene's role in reducing incidence of cancers of the lung (351,358,362,376,377,378) and GI tract (351,360,379,380,381,382,383)
• Evidence that lycopene attenuates inflammation in rat models of colitis (384)
• Research indicating lycopene protects skin from sun damage (385,386,387)
• Evidence that lycopene beneficially modulates cardiovascular risk factors (388,389,390,391,392,393) including LDL:HDL ratio (394), LDL oxidation (339,395), and reduces risk of heart attack (396,397)
• Preliminary evidence also suggests that Lyc-O-Mato intervention significantly reduces blood pressure in mild hypertension (398)

Warnings and Contraindications:

Lycopene can reduce PSA levels (353,354) so inform your Doctor if you are supplementing with lycopene whilst undergoing treatment or monitoring for prostate disease.
